KnitTraders Knitting and Fiber Tour of Iceland 2018


April 23rd - 30th, 2018. 

 Join us for this stunning tour
 of some of the most spectacular scenery on earth, 
with world renouned  knitwear designer, 
Helen Magnusson.




 Day 1 - April 23rd: Depart Toronto*.
 
Day 2 - April 24th: Visit and breakfast at the Viking museum, Vikingaheimar, home of the Viking Ship Islendingur, an exact replica of the famous Gokstad ship, excavated in 1882. After breakfast we'll drive to the Blue Lagoon, beautifully located in its extraordinary lava surroundings. Enjoy the swimming experience of a lifetime. 
On to the capital, Rekjavik for a city tour, which ends with check-in at Reykjavik Lights Guest House.
In the afternoon, visit IceWear Woolhouse.
 
Day 3 - April 25th: Knitting Adventure in the West (includes breakfast, lunch and dinner).
En route to the Bifrost Hotel, we'll tour through the Borgarfjordur region, of interest to all knitters, spinners, dyers and wool lovers featuring plant dyed and handspun yarns, friendly rare cashmere goats, magnificent yarns and more. 
 
Day 4 - April 26th: Knitting and Nature (includes breakfast, lunch and dinner). 
Enjoy a knitting workshop with Helene Magnusson with visits from local knitting ladies of the region. Those who wish can explore the nearby crater, the extensive lava field covered with spongy moss, waterfalls and more. Meals include products from the farm, and home grown vegetables from the hotel's garden. 

 Day 5 - April 27th: The Historic North (includes breakfast, lunch and dinner).
We continue our journey north to visit the Glaumbaer Turf Farm Museum in the beautiful fjord of Skagarfjordur. We will connect with crafters from the area at the Fish Leather Tannery. We'll visit the Textile Museum of Blonduos in the afternoon to admire the collection of the many Icelandic knitting traditions. 
On to Hotel Laugarbakki, a country guest house in Hvammstangi where we will stay for 2 nights.

Day 6 - April 28th: Knitting by the Sea (Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner). 
The morning features knitting workshops in the beautiful village setting, and the afternoon is open for walks and bird watching.
For an extra $125. fee an optional seal watching expedition is available.
 
Day 7 - April 29th: Knitting in Rekjavik (breakfast and lunch included). 
On route we will stop at the Istex Spinning Factory, the only mill and wool producer in Iceland, and home of the famous Lopi Wool. Helen Magnusson will also guide us to Alafoss, a wool establishment located in the Old Factory House, and to the Hand Knitting Association Centre.   The evening in the city is on your own to enjoy and take in some of the sites and local fare. 

Day 8 - April 30th: Departure from Iceland (breakfast included). 
Morning is at your leisure before the afternoon flight back to Toronto*.
